Fun Food Drive Ideas to Fight Hunger
Student
food
drive ideas:
Work with a local college or university to set up a drive among
student groups or dorms.
Stage a scavenger hunt to find items on a high demand list provided
by TAFB warehouse operations.
Coordinate fraternities and sororities at colleges and universities
to conduct food drives at their events.
Get your children’s sports teams to donate food at each game.
Have teachers offer extra credit on tests or a free dress day
in schools with uniforms to students who bring in food items during
a school drive.
Stage a “Food Fight” competition between school classes
to see who can bring the most peanut butter and jelly.
In
the workplace food drive ideas:
Have staff and clients compete with other offices for
total weight of food donations in a day, week or month.
Set up a drive within your office or workplace. Let departments
compete for time off or free lunch.
Compete with other businesses in your building to collect the
most food.
Set up an Order Up! (virtual food drive) online in your
office. Employees donate cash for meals instead of bringing in
actual food items.
Host a "building competition"
with cans or nonperishable food only. Departments or floors must
pay to enter.
On
your own ideas:
Host a birthday or holiday party and
request that guests bring food items for donation.
Each time you go to the grocery store, use your Albertsons, Kroger
or Tom Thumb rewards card and designate Tarrant Area Food Bank
as a recipient of funds.
Sign up for Direct Feed , which allows direct payment
to TAFB via automatic withdrawal.
Ask your social or civic club to hold a drive at the beginning
of each meeting or session.
Have your child’s friends or organization fill gift bags with
items for “Birthday in a Bag” donations to children.
Organize a neighborhood talent
show that people pay to enter and to attend.
Set up a food drive in your neighborhood; serve as the host house
for donations.
With
your community food drive ideas:
Organize a drive within your place of worship with competitions
between departments or classes.
Ask the backyard farmers in your community to donate their extra
produce.
Organize a drive as a service project with your local Boy Scout,
Girl Scout, or other youth organization.
Organize a 24 to 36-hour “Hunger Awareness Fast” in your place
of worship and ask participants to donate food.
Encourage local professional sports teams to provide discounted
admission to games in exchange for canned item donations.
Hold a golf tournament and off set the entry fees in exchange
for food items donations.
Schedule the TAFB Turkey Truck to park at your workplace, school
or place of worship to receive donations of frozen turkeys or
chickens.
If
you support Tarrant Area Food Bank in any way,
please
know that we and our network of partner charities
are
very grateful for your generosity!
