Food Company Donations
Most of the
food and non-food products donated to Tarrant Area Food Bank come
from the food industry. At our 69,000 square-foot warehouse
in Fort Worth, we handle fresh and frozen foods as well as shelf-stable
food products and non-food products such as paper goods, household
cleaning products and personal care products. We depend on donations
from national corporations through America's
Second Harvest and on additional donations from local, regional
and national companies that have facilities in Fort Worth and
our 13-county service
area.
We handle all
food according to standards set by America's
Second Harvest and the Texas Department of Health.
Our state-of-the art inventory system tracks a product from the
time it is received in our warehouse, through inspection, sorting
and repacking in quality control and on through distribution to
our network of agencies. Since we can account for any product
donated to us, we have the capability of recalling a product if
that should ever be necessary.
The
law protects food donors. The federal Bill Emerson
Good Samaritan Act of 1996 protects businesses, nonprofit organizations
and individuals who donate food in good faith from civil or criminal
liability should such donated food later cause harm to a recipient.
Tax
benefits are available to businesses that donate food.
Current tax laws allow generous deductions for contributions of
ordinary income property to charitable organizations.
