OUR CORE PROGRAM

Tarrant Area Food Bank's core program is the collection and distribution of food and other grocery products.

• We collect donated surplus food from food industry donors, who otherwise, would discard it.  We also receive donations from community food drives and individuals.

• We temporarily house this fresh, frozen, canned and boxed food in our 69,000-plus square-foot warehouse.  This space includes nearly 38,000 square feet of dry storage space and 109,000-plus cubic feet of freezer space (equivalent to nearly 11,000 home freezers).
  
  
• We handle all food according to standards set by Feeding America and the Texas Department of Health. Our inventory system tracks a product from the time it is received in our warehouse through distribution to our network of agencies. Since we can account for any product donated to us, we have the capability of recalling a product if that should ever be necessary.

• We transfer 17 million or more pounds of edible fresh, frozen and nonperishable food each year to our network of 300 partner charities in the counties of Cooke, Denton, Johnson, Parker, Wise, Hood, Erath, Bosque, Hamilton, Hill, Palo Pinto, Somervell and Tarrant.

• For network charities located in the counties farthest from Fort Worth, we truck food to satellite locations where the agencies can pick up their grocery orders rather than driving to our warehouse.

• Each month, our network of partner pantries, soup kitchens, after-school programs, low-income child care centers, senior centers and other social servicecenters distributes emergency groceries to 43,000 families and serves 565,000 meals and snacks on their sites.
