Hunger Action Month 2010

30 Ways to Fight Hunger in 30 Days

Volunteer

  • Contact Tarrant Area Food Bank or a local pantry, soup kitchen or shelter to find ways to volunteer.
  • Volunteer to read children’s books about hunger awareness at your local library.
  • With your kids, volunteer at Tarrant Area Food Bank or a local pantry or soup kitchen.

Donate/Raise Food

  • Hold a virtual food drive, encouraging individuals to pledge monetary contributions online.
  • Organize a neighborhood food drive – and be sure to check with your local food bank, pantry or shelter to determine what their needs truly are!
  • Take up collections at your office, congregation, anywhere where the leadership is comfortable with you setting out a box to collect donations for your local food bank.

Donate/Raise Funds

  • Donate a grocery store gift card to your local food bank so they can purchase most-needed items on their own.
  • Coordinate a youth and adult athletic fundraising event to raise awareness/donations.
  • Make a donation and spread the word!
  • Instead of buying coffee, make coffee at home (and consider donating what you would have spent on coffee each day to your local food bank!).
  • Establish an ongoing donation to Tarrant Area Food Bank or local food pantry.
If you’re a business owner, designate a day during Hunger Action Month to donate a portion of your proceeds to fight hunger.

Shop and Surf

  • Shop to raise funds: Earn money for Tarrant Area Food Bank at the Shop to Earn website, shoptoearn.net/tafb. Purchases you make at this website from major retailers and specialty stores result in a percent of each purchase price being donated to the Food Bank.  See a partial list of stores.
  • Surf to raise funds: Use GoodSearch.com, which is powered by Yahoo.com, to surf the Web.  For each click you make, 50 percent of the associated advertising revenue goes to your designated charity—Tarrant Area Food Bank, of course.
