Hunger Action Month 2010

Tarrant Area Food Bank joins the regional food banks of Feeding America in the third annual nationwide Hunger Action Month.
The public is invited to GIVE A LITTLE. FEED A LOT. You can Give Time, Give Food, Give Funds and Give Voice to end hunger among the thousands of individuals struggling with food insecurity and hunger in Fort Worth and 13 neighboring counties.
Local Effects of Economic Recession
The community’s support is especially needed as the economic recession grinds on. Over the past year, the number of families served by Tarrant Area Food Bank’s partner pantries alone has increased 30 percent.
In the 13 counties served by Tarrant Area Food Bank, one in six children lives in an undernourished household. During the 2009-10 academic year, the percentage of students in grades K-12 who qualified for free and reduced-cost meals was up from the previous year. The 2009-10 percentages were, in Denton County - 30 percent, Parker County - 35 percent, Johnson County – 49 percent and in Tarrant County - 51 percent.
